The group covers the majority of the Cudgewa Creek catchment, from Beetoomba & Lucyvale almost to Tintaldra.

Initially known as the Cudgewa Creek Catchment Land Protection Group, this group has been operating since 1993 in the Cudgewa area. The group is one of the four groups involved in the Upper Murray Water Quality Monitoring and Catchment Planning Project.

The Cudgewa Group has been undertaking a wide range of activities including:

  • Whole Farm Planning Workshops
  • Bulk chemical purchasing for members
  • Paterson's Curse control trial using different chemicals and pasture establishment
  • Bent Grass control trial using different rates of Roundup and wetting agents
  • Assisted with the release of the Blackberry Rust fungus around the catchment
  • St Johns Wort Mite release throughout the catchment
  • Lime Trials in 1994 to examine differences between rates of lime application and between incorporation or broadcasting.

The Cudgewa Catchment Landcare Group has received assistance through the NLP, Natural Heritage Trust and Victorian Second Generation Landcare programs for works and projects in the area, including:

  • Good Neighbour Program spraying of roadsides
  • Community Weed Control Scheme funding for blackberry control programs on private land
  • Aging Eucalypt Regeneration Project to fence and establish understorey on ten sites of aging Eucalypts
  • Demonstrations of stock control fencing of riparian lands (with UMC Tree Group)
